Althought this is not a recent news, but it is an excellent example about the rule of "weakest link" in the practical security world.
How difficult to open a electronic lock using 128-bit encryption? Merely putting a strong magnet near the lock will do. It will pull a pin inside the lock, which mechanically block the lock from opening.
